A PhD degree is like a marathon.
To complete the race, an athlete needs to have a good ‘run-walk strategy’, ‘discipline’, and ‘supportive coach-athlete relationship’ to face the challenges along the way. Being a PhD student myself, I know that writing up your PhD thesis is also a long-distance race with many scientific challenges and emotional pitfalls. Likewise, an athlete, you need effective reading strategies, encouragement, and advice to do successful research and defeat the difficulties. Thus, having a personalised mentor to keep you on track and accountable for achieving your goals, is a key element for completing your PhD race successfully.
